Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,

We’re continuing to enjoy getting to know your children as they adjust to new class configurations and teachers this school year. Teachers are introducing, practicing and reinforcing daily routines, and students are eager to jump into learning and make new connections with their peers and teachers. Please see below for some important information and reminders.

Pick Up and Drop Off

We need your help to ensure daily pick up and drop off times are safe. Please remember:

  • Dropping off and picking up students in our parking lot is a serious and recurring safety concern. Our parking lot is filled with vehicles coming and going throughout the day. Please do not drop off or pick up your child in the parking lot for the safety of all members of the CWS and PFS learning communities.
  • If you are walking to school for drop offs or pick- ups with your four legged friend (which I whole heartedly encourage and celebrate), please do not bring your dog onto school property. The signs posted at perimeter entrances to the school property are a good reminder about where to “kiss and drop” in the morning or "meet up" at end of the school day. CBE policy does not permit dogs on school grounds.
  • Remember to dress for the weather! We will only remain indoors for recess during very inclement weather (generally temperatures below minus 20 degrees). Please ensure your child comes to school ready to play/learn comfortably outside in all weather conditions.

Meet the Teacher Conferences

We look forward to welcoming families into the school for meetings with teachers on September 26 and 27. Bookings for conferences will open (accessible via your MyCBE account online) on September 17 at 4pm, and will close on September 24 at midnight. Please mark your calendars so that you are able to book a time that works for your family. These meetings are a fabulous opportunity to meet with teachers, see classrooms and share important information with us to support your child and their learning.

Lunchroom Supervision

Each lunch hour, all students eat lunch together in our lunchroom, and play outdoors for 25 minutes. We are practicing eating “mindfully” in the lunchroom at this time, and ask for your support to practice these healthy habits when sitting down to eat with one another at home:

  • Remain seated whilst eating
  • Sit and talk with friends without shouting and with regard to others around you
  • Eat only the food your family has packed for you (we are a nut-aware school and request that students and families remain sensitive to the many severe allergies and sensitivities of others in our learning community)
  • Take only what you need from brown-bag lunch options (these emergency food supplies are for those who need them each day)
  • Throw away your garbage in the bins provided for recycling, compost and landfill waste
  • Listen to and respect lunchroom supervisors who are there to ensure all students are able to enjoy the lunch block as an opportunity for nutritious eating and healthy socialization with friends

Office Reminders | Forms

  • Remember to register and pay for lunch supervision via your MyCBE account if your child remains at school for lunch
  • Complete demographic verification/annual authorization forms online via your MyCBE account as soon as possible
  • Return  completed hard copies of the Family Viewpoint and Student Emergency Health Protocol forms to the school
