One of the most important ways parents/guardians and community members can make a meaningful difference for students is by participating on the school council. Under the Education Act, a school council is a collective association designed to advise the principal and the CBE Board of Trustees on matters related to the school. School councils have legislated advisory and decision-making authority defined within the Education Act and the School Councils Regulation. They are different from Parent Societies & Associations, whose main function is to raise funds for the school. You can find more details in the CBE School Council Handbook.

About Our School Council
Colonel Walker School is supported by an active school council as well as a school association. The council and association are comprised of parent volunteers, supporting the school in varying capacities.
School Council plays an active advisory role in school improvement planning. The Council:
- supports enhanced learning and well-being of the students;
- advises the Principal and Board of Trustees on school matters and shares information as needed.
- works as a team with school administration to engage the school community (parents/guardians/students/teachers) in decision-making.
The parent association is a separate legal entity that generally assists with:
1) Fundraising, including hosting and stewardship of Casino fundraisers through AGLC
2) Board oversight of Colonel Walker Programs, the before and afterschool care program run out of the Inglewood Community hall.
All parents and guardians of enrolled Colonel Walker students are encouraged to attend and participate in monthly meetings. Meetings typically occur monthly, and specific dates and times are communicated via the School Principal, and are posted on this website. Meetings occur remotely via Teams, and occasionally in person at the school or in a hybrid format. Each meeting date includes a school council and separate parent association meeting.
