Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,
Today teachers hosted our first “family groups” for the 2025-26 school year. These mixed grade gatherings are scheduled monthly, and are a fantastic opportunity for students across classrooms to come together to learn and build community. Today, each group spent time getting to know one another, and decided on a name for their family group (the challenge was to pick a name connected to Treaty 7 territory). It was inspiring to visit each family group this morning, and to see older student leaders and siblings mentoring, encouraging and supporting our youngest learners.
Some important information came home in your student’s backpack this week. Please carefully review, sign (or update online via your MyCBE account) and return all required paperwork to the school. It is critical that we have this information updated annually.
Please see below for some important information:
Meet the Teacher
This year we will run our Meet the Teacher event on Wednesday September 24 between 5pm- 7pm in an open house format. Families and caregivers are invited to drop in (see communication from your student’s teacher about the plan for their classroom). You can expect your student's teacher(s) to provide an overview of:
- Curriculum/learning for the year (including special events/residencies)
- Daily routines and communication plans
- Volunteering in the classroom/school this year
- A tour of the classroom community
Please note that there is no time scheduled for individual interviews/conversations at this event. IPP meetings will be scheduled by teachers directly this year.
Technology Reminder
Thank you for taking time to read through the “CWS Admirable Use” policy with your student that came home this week. This policy aligns with provincial legislation and CBE policy that mandates us to ensure personal devices are “away for the day” so that they do not interfere with learning at school. Please note that Smart Watches are considered “personal devices” and should remain at home (or away for the day at school). If you need to communicate with your student during the school day, please call the office and we’ll ensure messages are passed on in a timely manner. We appreciate your support.
