Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,

Last week we welcomed Deb Blayways, our new Assistant Principal. Deb was busy in classrooms, hallways and outside at recess getting to know our staff and students. She was also able to attend our School Council meeting last week, and was introduced to our incredible and supportive caregivers. When I asked Deb to describe her first impressions of our school, she described it as a “lovely community,” very “warm” and surrounded by "committed" families and teachers. She also remarked about an evident student passion for reading and books in our classrooms and hallways, a testament to the strategic approach teachers are taking to literacy instruction focused on cultivating both skills in alignment with the science of reading and a joy of reading! When you see Deb, please introduce yourself and help her to feel welcome.

Our inaugural Colonel Walker Classic Fun Run last was a fantastic success. School spirit was high and many staff members, students and volunteers commented on how much they enjoyed the event. It was fantastic to see students trying their best and demonstrating such immense perseverance. Students cheered one another on throughout the run and congratulated each other for their efforts at the finish line, regardless of the time it took them to complete the race. A big thank you to Mr. K., Ms. Langmo, Ms. Tammy and all our incredible volunteers for helping to make this event such a great experience for all our students.

As the weather warms up, please ensure students are coming to school each day dressed to learn and play outside in all weather conditions.

This week all Lost and Found items will be donated - if you’ve lost something that might need to be found, please stop by the office.
