Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,

On Tuesday of this week we gathered in “family groups” for a walk outside to celebrate the Spring Equinox. Throughout the school year, our student council representatives have consistently provided positive feedback about these cross-grade learning opportunities. These gatherings provide opportunities to build relationships between teachers and students across the school community, and support our work to help all students to feel like they belong at CWS.

Though the weather was chilly, students did a great job practicing aokakio’siit (ah-gaw-g-ee-osin or sit)- the Blackfoot word for “being wisely aware.” They used their senses to identify signs of spring, noticing the changing colors of the snow hare, birds in the sky, blades of green grass and evidence of the pinecones and garbage left exposed on the earth after the snow melts. It was beautiful to observe older students take on leadership roles as they walked alongside our youngest learners. It was also wonderful to be reminded of the fantastic volunteers we have who show up to support learners and learning whenever the call goes out. Thank you very much.

Today is the last day of classes before Spring Break and teachers will be busy hosting conferences (online via Microsoft Teams) tonight and tomorrow morning. There are no classes for students tomorrow, March 21. Thank you to all those who have signed up for a conversation about your child’s progress in learning with their classroom teacher.

If you’ve not yet come in to check the Lost and Found, today is the last day to do so. If you’re in the area, stop the Lost and Found outside the main office before the end of the day to ensure nothing that belongs to you is donated.
