Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School

It’s hard to believe we have less than two weeks left in the 2025-26 school year! Today our Kindergarten Sneak a Peek was a great success. We can’t wait to welcome our incoming kindergarten students and their families to our CWS family next year.

This afternoon teachers worked on class lists for next year, carefully prioritizing learning success and social connections for each students. This process is thoughtful and prioritizes reasonable class sizes and balanced learning communities. Whilst family requests cannot always be accommodated, please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any requests for the 2025-26 school year.

There’s so much learning to finalize and fun to be had in the coming weeks. Please see below for a few updates.

National Indigenous People’s Day Friday June 20

On Friday June 20 we will celebrate National Indigenous People’s Day in family groups at school. This is a day to celebrate the many contributions of Indigenous peoples to our lives in Canada throughout history and today. Whilst each teacher-led family group will take up this learning in a different way, some may choose to walk over to the Wildlands as part of their learning that morning. Please ensure students arrive to school dressed for the weather and time on the land that day. Our renewed 2025-26 CWS commitment to Truth and Reconcili-action will be uploaded to our school website before the end of this school year.

Sports Day and Year-end BBQ Thursday June 19

On this day, students will spend in the morning (under the supervision of their classroom teacher) at a variety of fun and engaging stations with the support of our incredible CWS volunteers. Please ensure your child comes to school that day ready to be active and play outside (weather permitting).

Following our Sports Day fun, students will be served a BBQ lunch by our generous and dedicated CWCSA volunteers. This BBQ lunch will include a hot dog (vegetarian and halal options available), bag of chips and juice box. Weather permitting, students will be served outside on the compound and will enjoy their lunch picnic style with their classmates outside. If your child is unable to participate in the BBQ lunch, please remember to pack food that they are able to eat, and they will join their classmates for the picnic component of the afternoon.

Water Update

We continue to await confirmation that our water fountains can be turned back on at school. Until then, bottled water is available for students as we move into next week. Please send a water bottle for refilling, and look for a message next week confirming when we can return to regular operations. Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding.
