Dear Families and Friends of Colonel Walker School,

There was lots of energy in the building yesterday with many witches, goblins and ghouls arriving to school in costumes, and there were lots of weary but good spirited children in the building today with stories to share. Ms. Tammy loved the opportunity to lead our kindergarten class through all classrooms for a parade of their costumes. It was heartwarming to hear older students cheer for and recognize their younger friends. Our second mixed grade family grouping activity at the end of the day yesterday was a wonderful way to finish off the afternoon as students engaged in crafts and games with teachers who are new to some of them. IT was wonderful to see the ways in which older students sat together with younger students providing assistance, engaging in conversation and making new friends.

Please see below for some important updates:

Lost and Found

The lost and found is set up along the main hall way.  There are many many lost items. Please come in on early next week to see if something belongs to your family before we pack up these items for donation.

Division 2 Choir (grades 3, 4, 5 and 6)

Ms. Blackman has started an optional, extracurricular Grade 3-6 choir. All students are invited to participate. The choristers will be showcased when we carol together as a school community during the last week before Winter Break. Twice that week, they will share 2-3 songs. Parents will be invited to attend on either of those days (dates TBA).

Rehearsals will be during recess on Wednesdays, October 30 through to December 18, from 12:15 - 12:40 pm. Students who wish to participate will come to the music room those days rather than going out for recess.

Grade 3 students who participate in choir will have an altered lunch schedule on Wednesdays. Our rehearsals are from 12:15-12:40 pm. They will eat lunch after our rehearsal, at 12:40 pm, with the 4-6 students, in the lunchroom.

Teachers distributed sign-up permission slips to interested students today. If your singer wants to join the choir, please remind them to get the slip back to Mrs. Blackman on Monday.

Morning Entry

Please ensure your child is entering the school between 8:25 and 8:40am through the doors on the compound (not the main office). As the weather cools down, the door will be unlocked during this window so students can pull on the handle and enter independently. They will be greeted once inside the building. This will help us to keep warmth inside as winter approaches.

School Photos

Picture retake day is Wednesday, Nov. 6 in the morning.  If you would like a retake please email Tammy (tmhoban@cbe.ab.ca) at the office and she will add your child to the list.  If your child was away on the first photo day they will be added to the list.
