Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,
A huge thank you to all the family members and students who arrived early this morning to welcome back our teaching team. There was not a dry eye in the office as teachers came through the front door to cheers and signs of welcome. We appreciated your words of support, and the coffee and snacks you so generously dropped off for us. I can say with confidence, on behalf of our entire team, that we felt welcomed, cared for and respected as we came "home" to school this morning.
Today teachers spent time reconnecting with students and reminding them of classroom routines and expectations. Students were overjoyed to enter the building this morning, and were weary by the afternoon as they worked to re-build stamina after time away. Please see below for a few reminders about the days and weeks ahead:
Staffing Update
Rachel Clowes began her Acting Assistant Principal position at Capitol Hill School this morning, and students were introduced to Loveleen Kaur who will take on Rachel's 2/3 classroom starting today. Please see a few words of introduction from her below:
Hello families,
My name is Loveleen Kaur, but the kids call me Mrs. Love. I’m so excited to be your child’s Grade 2/3 teacher this year! I believe every child learns best when they feel safe, valued, and inspired. In our classroom, we focus on kindness, curiosity, and creativity while celebrating each child’s unique strengths. I’m passionate about creating hands-on, joyful learning experiences that help students grow with confidence.
I can’t wait to connect with you and make this a wonderful year of learning together
Halloween on Friday
Students are welcome to dress up for the day on October 31 for Halloween. Please ensure the costume you send them in to school is comfortable for learning throughout the day (including PE and Wellness classes and recess breaks outside). We have communicated to students that costumes should be school appropriate (no weapons, excessive violence or gore, masks etc.). Out of respect for our many students with food allergies and sensitivities, we ask that you do not send candy/snacks to school for students to distribute during the school day
Remembrance Day Assembly
On Friday November 7 at 10:45am we will host our Remembrance Day Assembly in the gymnasium with neighbouring staff and students from Piitaoyis Family School. If you (or someone you know) can play the trumpet (or bugle) and is confident performing the Last Post and Reveille at our assembly, please reach out to the main office to let us know. Any interested and available friends and family members are welcome to join us for this special event. Please plan to arrive no earlier than 10:40am when Ms. Tammy will open the doors to welcome our guests.
Photo Retakes
Our photo re-takes have been re-scheduled for November 26. Please mark your calendars.
With appreciation,
Kate Jones
Principal
