Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,

Thank you to all who joined our School Council meeting last night. Education is truly a partnership, and your involvement is very much appreciated. If you’re interested in joining conversations about what’s going on in our School Community, your voice is important and we’d love you to join us when you can! Our next meeting will take place on Thursday February 27 at 6pm via Microsoft Teams. This meeting will involve engagement on our CWS Results and School Development plan (document available for your review on our school website).

It’s been a busy two weeks since our return to school following the winter break. January is a time of immense growth. Many teachers have shared stories with me over the past two weeks about the progress their students are making as learners. It’s heart warming to hear their enthusiasm, and to stop into classrooms to greet students eager to share their growth in learning. Teachers are finalizing report cards next week, and they will be visible for viewing via your MyCBE account from January 27 onwards. Report cards share student achievement at this time of year, and are just one of the many ways teachers share evidence of student learning.

I’m excited to let you know that Colonel Walker School was recently assigned a School Resource Officer, Serge Hammel.  The Start Smart Stay Safe (S4) program is a collaboration between the Calgary Police Service and the Calgary Board of Education. S4 is a strength based educational program designed to support students to build positive relationships, create safer communities and prepare for the challenges of our complex changing world. Serge is available to come into classrooms to work alongside teachers to facilitate learning around topics such as problem solving, safe choices, respectful communication, healthy relationships and digital citizenship (both at home and in the community). You may also meet him on field trips as a volunteer, or at school events depending upon his availability. Serge has an open invitation to visit our school, and we look forward to working together with him in support of our students and their health and well-being in the months ahead.
