Severe Allergies

We are aware of students and staff at Colonel Walker who have severe allergies to nuts and nut products. Therefore, we discourage the consumption foods containing nut products at recess and during the lunch hour. At the same time, we encourage parents whose children have severe allergies to educate them in making responsible decisions about how to manage their health concerns and protect themselves from undue risks. Parents must indicate any special health concerns on the school registration for their child and are encouraged to ensure classroom teachers are also aware of health issues.

If your child suffers from a severe (life-threatening) allergy, inform the office staff and your child’s teacher about the allergy and the treatment should the allergy occur. You will be asked to complete a Student Health Plan form and/or the Student Health Emergency Response Protocol Form which will provide information to the school about your child’s allergy, health and medical needs.

Medication 

Should your child require prescription or non-prescription medication at school, a Student Health Plan must be completed. We cannot assist with administering medication without this form. Parents are also required to inform teachers of any medication a child has at school.

This form is to be:

• completed if a physical or medical condition may affect the student’s attendance at school
• completed if medication is to be taken at school,
• reviewed and updated annually or sooner if there is a change in the student’s health concern or school registration.
