Oki and hello families and friends of CWS.

It is an exciting time at CWS as we are two weeks away from our residency with Trickster Theatre in collaboration with Piitoayis Family School (PFS). The theme for our show is Ko’komiki’somm – Grandmother Moon. Students discussed the Blackfoot lunar cycle and the 13 moons with Elder Shirley Hill during her visit last week. Each class is learning about a different moon and what takes place at that particular time of year. This learning will inform the dramatic piece they design and share during the week of our residency.

Trickster Theatre will be onsite at the school the week of May 6 to 10th working with students to create, rehearse, and perform the show. Trickster Theatre loves to make use of the talents within the school community to support the show. They are looking for volunteers to support for everything from cardboard donations, loading and unloading equipment, program support, prop building, and general volunteer support. If you have a current volunteer clearance with CBE and are able to help during the week of May 6-10, please click here.

Thank you in advance to those who are able to volunteer and help make this residency a success. The generous support of the Colonel Walker School Council in conjunction with an Alberta Foundation for the Arts grant have made this amazing learning opportunity possible for all students at CWS.

The show for the CWS and PFS communities will be held late morning on Friday, May 10th. As soon as the show time is confirmed this information will be communicated. We hope you are able to join us to support and celebrate this learning.

Take care,

Robin Drinkwater
