Dear Friends and Familes of Colonel Walker School,

It has been a wonderful first couple of days at school. Teachers are working hard with our students to introduce routines, build community and gather information that will inform learning throughout the school year. It is exciting to see the teacher's plans coming to life, to hear the voices of children in hallways and classrooms again, and to observe the ways our students are already demonstrating care for themselves, one another and our shared learning spaces.

Please see below for a few important reminders:

Student Information

Today your student is coming home with an envelope containing some homework for you to complete. Please return printed forms to the school; online forms are completed via the MyCBE portal. It is critical that we have up to date medical and demographic information each year in the event that we need to respond (or contact you) in an unforeseen emergency.

Lunch Room Routines

To help us to ensure a safe and smooth lunch period please:

  • Do not send nuts to school in your child's lunch. We have several students with life threatening allergies, and packing a “nut-free" lunch is one way you can help to ensure the safety of our youngest learners as they develop independence and an ability to advocate for themselves and their needs.
  • Label all water bottles and lunch kits with your student's name and their classroom teacher's name. This will help us to ensure belongings are not misplaced and that if items are left behind they can be returned to their owners in a timely manner.

School Council

Please mark your calendars:

On Tuesday September 5, before school, our CWS Council will host their annual “Muffin Mixer." This event will take place on the compound before school starts- all are welcome to join for coffee and community building.

The Annual General Meeting (for both CWS Council and Association) will take place on Tuesday September 26 at 6pm, in person, at the school. The agenda for this meeting will be shared closer to the date. A Teams link will also be available for those who would like to attend virtually due to childcare/other constraints.

Volunteering in CBE

To be a volunteer working with students within CBE schools (and on field trips) there are two steps that need to be completed. Your name will not appear on the teacher's current volunteer list until both steps are completed:

  1. First part is to have a current CPS (police) check.  This process starts at the school office. Please bring in two pieces of government issued ID, one with a picture with your current address.  There is no charge to do this check.  Your police clearance will be sent to you directly; bring a copy in to the school indicating you have been “cleared" and we will update our records. This clearance is valid at any CBE school for 5 years.
  2. The second part is to complete an annual registration form at the school.  This form is only good for the current school year and can be picked up in the office at any time or sent home upon request.  If you would like to complete this annual registration, please have your student stop by and grab one or send Miss Tammy an email and she will send one home with your student.

Have a wonderful long weekend,

Kate Jones
