Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,
I hope you find time with loved ones this long weekend as we celebrate Thanksgiving. There are no classes for students on Monday October 9. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday October 10. Please see below for a couple of requests for volunteer assistance, and for an invitation:
Volunteers Needed for Inline Skating
Our kindergarten and grade 1/2 classes need volunteers for the upcoming Alien Inline Skating residency the week of October 23-26. This role will involve supporting a class (or more) for 1 hour to help our youngest students put on and take off inline skates and gear. If you are available during this week, have CBE volunteer clearance, and are willing to support a class in this role (especially kindergarten as this group only has one volunteer with current clearance), please let us know so that we can ensure enough coverage for each class. If you've not yet completed your volunteer clearance and would like to be eligible to volunteer, please see Ms. Tammy in the main office and she can assist you.
School Council Update
Like many non-profits in Alberta, the Colonel Walker Community School Association (CWCSA) raises funds through the AGLC. This year the CWCSA's Casino dates are February 10th and 11th at Elbow River Casino. We need volunteers for these dates, so if you're interested please sign up.
CBE Youth and Well-being series
The Calgary Board of Education invites all parents and guardians to join us in an online series focusing on child and youth well-being. These sessions will be hosted in partnership with experts from Alberta Health Services and will explore topics such as vaping, brain development, mental health, and sexual health.

A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.
Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.
The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver's understanding of a variety of health-related topics.Thank you for your time and consideration to join for this learning.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Kate Jones
