Dear Friends and Families of Colonel Walker School,
Please see below for a couple of important reminders:
Halloween Tomorrow
Students are welcome to dress up for the day. A reminder that costumes must be comfortable for learning throughout the school day (including outside recesses and PE and Wellness blocks). Our kindergarten students will share their costumes with peers in a parade through the classrooms at 9am, and teachers have organized some fun Halloween themed learning within and across classrooms during the day. Please remember:
- If your child's costume has a weapon, it must stay at home; this includes fake knives, guns, arrows, etc.
- Students are not permitted to wear a full mask; this is for safety and security reasons.
- Anything with excessive gore, blood, or depicting violence cannot come to school.
- Please do not send treats to share. We have several life-threatening food allergies at school.
Lost and Found
Our Lost and Found area is overflowing with misplaced clothing and other items. If you think your child has lost something at school, please send them down to check out the Lost and Found area outside the office this week. You are also welcome to come in yourselves to have a look at what is there on the tables/hanging rack (see photos below by viewing on your computer).
On Friday November 3 at the end of the day, a parent has agreed to come in to wash and donate all Lost and Found items left behind. Please avoid disappointment by coming in to check for lost belongings before then!
Food at School
In order to ensure our school is a safe, welcoming, caring and respectful place for all learners we do not allow students to share food at school. There are several dietary restrictions in our community for medical, cultural and religious reasons, and out of respect for all members of our community we ask you to support us to ensure that students only eat the food they bring from home. If you would like to send in something with your child to celebrate a special day at school (birthday etc.), please send items that are not edible so that all students are able to be included and participate.
We do receive bi-weekly deliveries from Brown Bagging for Calgary Kids. These food deliveries help us to make sure that all children have access to safe and nutritious food at school if they need it. If you would prefer your child not to access to emergency food supplies at school for any reason, please reach out to your child's teacher so that we can be sure to respect your wishes and reach out to you directly if your child is hungry at school.

Learning Support
Due to an increase in our enrolment, we are happy to have offered Sara Stanton, our Kindergarten teacher, a full time position at Colonel Walker School. Sara will be working to support learning and learners across classrooms in the afternoons in a variety of ways in response to student needs. We are thrilled that Sara has accepted this full time position, and look forward to the experience she brings to our school community supporting diverse learners across our K-6 classrooms.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at the school at any time- we are always happy to hear from you.
Warm regards,
Kate
Principal
