Dear Friends and Family of Colonel Walker School,

Students have settled into learning routines at school as the weather outside changes. We are very excited to report that the painters have moved onto the Colonel Walker School side of out building this week, and in a few short weeks our hallways will have a fresh new look. We are also eagerly anticipating our inline skating residency that will take place in the school gymnasium next week.

Please see below for a few reminders:

Dress for the Weather (and Halloween)

As we anticipate a change in the weather next week, please send your child to school with appropriate clothing to be outside for learning and at recess and lunch times throughout the day. You are welcome to send your child to school in a costume for Halloween on Tuesday October 31. To ensure everyone is safe, please do not plan for costumes that include masks or gore, or that will interefere with learning activities (including PE and Wellness in the gym).

Bike Safety

Another bicycle was stolen off the bike racks this week during the school day. If your child is travelling to school on a bike (which we welcome and encourage!) please send them with a strong D-lock so that their bike is secure throughout the school day. Chain locks are very easy to cut through with bolt cutters, and a strong lock is the best way to avoid the disappointment of stolen property.

Alien In-line Skating October 23-26

All classes will have the opportunity to participate in this fun and engaging PE and Wellness learning opportunity throughout the week next week. Experiences like this one are only possible thanks to the generous support of our Colonel Walker School Council (and Association). Please send your child to school next week wearing socks and with their own helmet if you have one at home. Acceptable helmets (with a safety certification sticker attached e.g., CSA, CPSC, etc.) include: bicycle helmets, hockey helmets (no cage), skateboard helmets, ski/snowboard helmets. All other equipment (including skates and protective equipment) will be provided and sanitized between classes- please do not bring any additional gear from home. If you do not have an appropriate helmet to bring from home, the operators will have some extra helmets available to ensure all students can participate safely.

Thank you to those who have stepped up to volunteer next week to support our youngest learners to participate in this learning experience. If you have not yet signed up to volunteer this year and would like to do so, please reach out to Ms. Tammy in the main office and she can get you set up.

School Council Meeting

Our next School Council meeting will take place on Tuesday October 24 at 6pm at the school. A link to join the meeting via Teams will be out next week if you are unable to make it in person. The agenda for this meeting and minutes from last meeting will also be shared in a message early next week.

As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns if you have them. Have a wonderful and restful weekend,

Kate
